Pianist from Lille and a member of the Muzzix collective, Barbara Dang followed a double musical curriculum in classical music at the Lille Conservatory and in jazz at the Tourcoing Conservatory.
Heiress of an eclectic musical transmission, her encounters make her diversify and practice free improvisation very early. Her sound universe is nourished by the experimental repertoire (Andriessen, Cage, Cardew, Cowell, Feldman, Lucier, Satie...) leading her to use unusual techniques: prepared and amplified piano, indoor playing, integration of silence and environmental sounds... She favors pure musical action, the gesture often being accompanied by carefully chosen objects
In small or large ensembles, in projects for video or theater, she explores other instruments such as amplified objects, electronics, organ or harpsichord. She plays solo but also in different formations: Kezn, Abdou/Dang/Orins, Undoers, Le Cercle... She collaborates with Olivier Benoit, Jérémie Ternoy, Sophie Agnel, Aude Romary, the Dedalus ensemble, Tom Johnson, Radu Malfatti, Michael Pisaro, the director Halory Goerger, the video artist Lionel Palun, the harpsichord maker David Boinnard...
Between 2020 and 2021 she releases two records Lescence/Gmatique and Ouvre-Glace on the labels Circum-disc and Tour de bras and records Tombstones (collection of songs by Michael Pisaro) at the GMEA - Centre National de Création Musicale Albi - Tarn. Since March 2015, she has been working for Revue & Corrigée : reference magazine of experimental sound practices.
